Preparing learners for the real world of work

Trinity has launched a new examination suite - Spoken English for Work. The Spoken English for Work (SEW) examination is a unique assessment available at four levels corresponding to the Common European Framework. Please view the SEW syllabus for complete details of the SEW examinations.

SEW prepares candidates for the real world of work by providing valuable practice in telephone conversations, formal and informal presentations and an opportunity to discuss real work issues in an English-speaking environment.
SEW examinations also allow employers to place employees at the appropriate SEW exam level by using the SEWCheck - a list of can do statements which are mapped to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and each SEW level. This allows, for example, heads of departments to decide which level each employee needs to achieve in order to perform their job effectively. SEWCheck offers a placement tool and a way to measure the English language proficiency goals of the organisation:
Successful candidates receive a certificate which shows their chosen ‘sector category', such as ‘Advertising & Media'.
Key features:

  • a work-related Speaking and Listening examination based on the candidate's chosen sector
  • a qualification relevant to any sector, with realistic linguistic tasks such as telephone communication skills
  • valuable practice for job interviews conducted in English
  • an opportunity to gain discussion and presentation experience in a formal English-speaking environment
